How to Survive Without Electricity After a Hurricane!!

This is some interesting information to know about, whether we lose electricity to any kind of natural disaster or any kind of power outage!!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Article by Tammy Jones, Yahoo! Contributor Network

Trying to survive the days following a hurricane can be a challenge. The high winds of these monstrous storms are notorious for tossing trees onto power lines. Everyday household items that use electricity, such as washers, dryers, and electric stoves are rendered useless without power. How will you survive the days after a hurricane without these electronic luxuries? With a little creativity and a few household items, you can still have clean clothes and hot meals even without the convenience electricity.

Doing laundry Grandma’s way:

With no electricity to power the washing machine, you can still survive a hurricane and have clean clothes. You’ll need two 5 gallons containers, a toilet plunger, liquid laundry detergent, a clothes line, clothes pins, and someone with a lot of muscle. Fill up both containers with water, adding detergent to one. Throw in your dirty clothes and plunge away. Use the second container of water to rinse, followed by a good twist to expel the excess water. Hang to dry. Not only will you have clean clothes, but you’ll also have awesome upper body strength by the time the electricity is restored.

Fire up the Grill:

Many people believe that cooking won’t be a problem after a hurricane. Even without electricity, those with gas stoves assume they can still cook inside. Fact: hurricanes occur during the hottest months of summer. Fact: stoves heat up the house. Combine those two and your house becomes a sauna that rivals any expensive spa. Unless you want to lose 50 pounds while cooking all of that thawed ground meat, you might want to add charcoal, lighter fluid, and matches to your hurricane preparedness list. While others are trying to survive cooking indoors on their gas stoves, you’ll be experiencing a nice breeze as you flip burgers on the grill.

Something to wash it all down:

After cooking a gourmet meal on your grill, you’ll want something refreshing to drink. While it is very important to stay hydrated with plenty of water, a nice glass of tea at the end of a long hot day would really hit the spot. But how are you going to boil the water for tea with no stove? Not a problem. Just drop a few tea bags into a pitcher of water and attach a lid. Place the pitcher in direct sunlight for several hours. By evening, you can enjoy a refreshing glass of sun tea.

Learning to survive without electricity after a hurricane can be tricky. However, with a little creativity and the right supplies, you can turn a bad situation into an outdoor adventure.

The Bohemian Grove!!

Bohemian Grove Fact Sheet

What is the Bohemian Grove? The Bohemian Grove is a 2700 acre redwood forest, located in Monte Rio, CA. It contains accommodation for 2000 people to “camp” in luxury. It is owned by the Bohemian Club.

What is the Bohemian Club? The Bohemian Club is a private. all male club, which is headquartered in the Bohemian building in San Francisco. It was formed in 1872 by men who sought shelter from the frontier culture (or lack of culture).

Who are the present members? The Club has evolved into an association of rich and powerful men, mostly of this country (there are similar organizations in other countries). Some artists are allowed to join (often at reduced rates), because of their social status and entertainment value. The membership list has included every Republican U.S. president (as well as some Democrats) since 1923, many cabinet officials, and director; & CEO’s of large corporations, including major financial institutions.

What industries are represented among the members? Major military contractors, oil companies, banks (including the Federal Reserve), utilities (including nuclear power), and national media (broadcast and print) have high-ranking officials as club members or guests. Many members are, or have been, on the board of directors of several of these corporations. You should note that most of the above industries depend heavily on a relationship with government for their profitability.

The members stay in different camps at the Grove, which have varying status levels. Members & frequent guests of the most prestigious camp (Mandalay) include: Henry Kissinger, George Shultz, S. D. Bechtel, Jr., Thomas Watson Jr. (IBM), Phillip Hawley (B of A), William Casey (CIA). and Ralph Bailey (Dupont). George Bush resides in a less prestigious camp (Hillbillies) with A. W. Clausen (World Bank), Walter Cronkite, and William F. Buckley.

What activities take place at the grove? The grove is the site of a two week retreat every July (as well as other smaller get-togethers throughout the year). At these retreats, the members commune with nature in a truly original way. They drink heavily from morning through the night, bask in their freedom to urinate on the redwoods, and perform pagan rituals (including the “Cremation of Care”, in which the members wearing red-hooded robes, cremate a coffin effigy of “Dull Care” at the base of a 40 foot owl altar). Some (20%) engage in homosexual activity (but few of them support gay rights or AIDS research). They watch (and participate in) plays and comedy shows in which women are portrayed by male actors. Although women are not allowed in the Grove, members often leave at night to enjoy the company of the many prostitutes who come from around the world for this event. Is any of this hard to believe? Employees of the Grove have said that no verbal description can accurately portray the bizarre behavior of the Grove’s inhabitants.

Besides this type of merriment. the annual gathering serves as an informational clearing house for the elite. The most powerful men in the country do their “networking” here, despite the Grove’s motto “weaving spiders come not here” (don’t do business in the Grove). At these gatherings men representing the government, military-industrial, and financial sectors meet and make major policy decisions. The Manhattan project, which produced the first atomic bombs, was conceived at the Grove in 1942. Other decisions made at the Grove include who our presidential candidates will be. There are speeches, known as “Lakeside Talks”, wherein high-ranking officials disseminate information which is not available to the public-at-large.                                                                                                                                                                                      What’s not right about this? When powerful people work together, they become even more powerful. The Grove membership is wealthy, and becoming more so, while the middle class is steadily becoming poorer. This close-knit group determines whether prices rise or fall (by their control of the banking system, money supply, and markets), and they make money whichever way markets fluctuate. They determine what our rights are and which laws have effect, by appointing judges. They decide who our highest officials shall be by consensus among themselves, and then selling candidates to us via the media which they own. Important issues and facts are omitted from discussion in the press, or slanted to suit their goals, but they are discussed frankly at the Grove. Is there true democracy when so much power is concentrated in so few hands? Is there any real difference between the public and private sectors when cabinet members come from the boardrooms of large corporations? Is the spending of billions on weapons, which are by consensus no longer needed, really the will of the people? Or is it the will of General Electric, General Dynamics, and the other weapons contractors represented at the Grove?

What can I do to make a difference? Educate yourself about the Grove and it’s inhabitants, and the true nature of the power structure in the world. Then educate your friends. Since most major newspapers and broadcast stations are owned by “insiders”, be wary of everything you hear in the press. If you can, participate in protest activities during the July retreat.

Obama Approval Drops to New Low of 40%!!

Similar to his approval rating for handling the debt ceiling negotiations

by Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, NJ — President Obama’s job approval rating is at a new low, averaging 40% in July 26-28 Gallup Daily tracking. His prior low rating of 41% occurred several times, the last of which was in April. As recently as June 7, Obama had 50% job approval.

President Obama's Job Approval Rating, Trend From November 2009

Obama’s approval rating averaged 46% in June and was near that level for most of July; however, it has stumbled in the past few days, coinciding with intensification of the debt ceiling/budget battle in Washington.

Obama’s 40% overall approval rating nearly matches the recent 41% approval Americans gave him forhandling the debt ceiling negotiations. Though Americans rate Obama poorly for his handling of the situation, they are less approving of how House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are handling it. Gallup does not include ratings of Congress or congressional leaders in its Daily tracking, and thus, there is no overall job approval rating of Boehner, Reid, or Congress directly comparable to Obama’s current 40% overall job approval rating.

Obama’s job approval rating among Democrats is 72%, compared with 34% among independents and 13% among Republicans. In the prior three weeks, his average approval rating was 79% among Democrats, 41% among independents, and 12% among Republicans.

Americans’ Ratings of the Economy Also More Negative Amid Stalemate

The debt crisis may be contributing to a generally sour mood for Americans that stretches beyond political ratings. For example, Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index, which is also tracked daily, averaged -49 July 26-28, down 8 points in the last week and down 19 points since early July. The current index score is the worst Gallup has measured since March 2009.

The index consists of two questions, measuring Americans’ ratings of current economic conditions and their assessments of whether the economy is getting better or worse. Currently, 52% say economic conditions are poor, the highest since August 2010. And 75% of Americans say economic conditions are getting worse, a level not seen since March 2009.

Implications

The inability of U.S. lawmakers to agree on the debt ceiling has apparently shaken Americans’ confidence in the economy and now seems to be taking its toll on the president’s public support, with Obama’s approval rating at a new low. As the debt ceiling talks drag on, his ratings, as well as those of Congress (last measured at 18% in early July), could decline further. By the same token, if an agreement is reached, it could restore some degree of public confidence in U.S. political leaders and in the economy.

Explore President Obama’s approval ratings in depth and compare them with those of past presidents in the Gallup Presidential Job Approval Center.

Survey Methods

Survey MethodsResults for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted July 26-28, 2011, on the Gallup Daily tracking survey, with a random sample of 1,463 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. For results based on the total sample of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points.

Interviews are conducted with respondents on landline telephones and cellular phones, with interviews conducted in Spanish for respondents who are primarily Spanish-speaking. Each sample includes a minimum quota of 400 cell phone respondents and 600 landline respondents per 1,000 national adults, with additional minimum quotas among landline respondents for gender within region. Landline telephone numbers are chosen at random among listed telephone numbers. Cell phone numbers are selected using random-digit-dial methods. Landline respondents are chosen at random within each household on the basis of which member had the most recent birthday.

Samples are weighted by gender, age, race, Hispanic ethnicity, education, region, adults in the household, and phone status (cell phone only/landline only/both, cell phone mostly, and having an unlisted landline number). Demographic weighting targets are based on the March 2010 Current Population Survey figures for the aged 18 and older non-institutionalized population living in U.S. telephone households. All reported margins of sampling error include the computed design effects for weighting and sample design.

In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

Surviving With A Sterno Stove!!

Since times are getting really tough, besides having a checklist of the basic necessities to have, I found some articles about Sterno!!  We have to be prepared in case we are reduced to cooking with only the very basics.  We are so used to just popping food into a microwave oven because that’s the fastest, most convenient way to cook.  But, what if we cannot use a microwave oven or even a stove to do our cooking?  What if our electricity gets shut off due to government problems, or even natural disasters?  This has happened to other people and it can also happen to you—but, I hope not!!  I will also make a page about this, as well.

HOW TO MAKE A TIN CAN STERNO STOVE:

By an eHow Contributor

When it comes to surviving in the wilderness, you’re not going to have the comfort of a large stove, microwave or fine china on which to eat. Here’s how to make a simple sterno stove out of just a few items.

Instructions

Things You’ll Need

  • 2 can openers (1 to open juice and 1 to open beans)
  • Screw
  • Screwdriver
  • Pocket knife
  • Pliers
  • Sterno
  • Wire hanger
  • Can of food you want to heat
  • Container that can fit heated food
    • 1

Open the can of food with a can opener and pour it into the separate container. This will hold the food while you make the stove. Also remove any stickers or labels on the outside of the can.

    • 2

Make six holes with the small can opener (the one that you’d open a can of juice with) on one end of the can. These holes will be made on the end of the can that is still closed. The holes will allow oxygen into the can and help the fire of the sterno burn.

    • 3

Poke 4 holes on the top of the can using your screw and screwdriver. You can also use a drill, though if you are traipsing through the woods, you probably don’t have one available. Make the holes so that they align with 2 on one side and 2 on the other.

    • 4

Bend the wire coat hanger until you make a narrow “u” shape.

    • 5

Insert the wire hanger into the holes you just made. This will serve as the cooking rack in the sterno can stove.

    • 6

Remove the bottom of the tin can. Both ends of the tin can must ultimately removed so that once the sterno is lit, you can slide the tin can over the sterno.

    • 7

Flatten any sharp parts of the tin can using pliers. You’ve made a lot of jagged cuts into the tin can. Take a moment to squeeze the pliers around these jagged cuts so that you don’t cut yourself.

    • 8

Light the sterno and cook your meal. After the sterno is lit, slide the tin can oven over it. Then place soup, beans or other food items on the stove and eat them when hot.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to burn yourself on the tin can after it is lit. The sterno will make the entire piece quite hot. You should place the stove on a rock or dirt to avoid a fire.

HOW TO MAKE STERNO FUEL:

By an eHow Contributor  updated September 03, 2010

Sterno is a gel fuel that can be lit to create a temporary heat source. Sterno typically comes in small shallow cans, like those used for tuna fish and cat food. Inside the can, a wick is lit, and the flame is placed under an aluminum pan or tray to heat or warm food. You can mix your own Sterno fuel using paraffin wax or gelled denatured ethanol, and you can create your own Sterno containers as well.

Difficulty:

Moderate

Instructions

Things You’ll Need

  • Old pot
  • Stove
  • Paraffin wax bricks
  • Metal stirrer
  • Denatured ethanol
  • Calcium carbonate (egg shells/chalk)
  • Vinegar
  • Glass dish
  • Filter paper
  • 2-inch cotton yarn
  • Steel paper clip
  • Clean cat food or tuna fish can
  1. Paraffin Wax Fuel

    • 1

Place the pot on the stove and turn the stove to high.

    • 2

Add the blocks of paraffin wax to the pot.

    • 3

Mix occasionally with the metal stirrer until the wax has melted.

    • 4

Reduce the heat to low. Add 5-25%, by volume, denatured ethanol. The more ethanol added, the faster and hotter the fuel will burn. You must use 100% (200-proof) ethanol, since 95.5% (192-proof) ethanol will not mix well with the wax.

    • 5

Mix the the ethanol and wax together until it is homogeneous.

    Gelled Ethanol Fuel

    • 1

Combine about 25 grams of calcium carbonate and 100 milliliters of vinegar in a small dish.

    • 2

Mix with the stirring rod until there are no more bubbles being formed. Add a little more calcium carbonate and mix again.

    • 3

Pour the mixture through the filter paper into the old pot to eliminate excess calcium carbonate.

    • 4

Place the pot on the stove. Heat on medium to boil away half of the solution.

    • 5

Add 30 milliliters of ethanol and stir to mix fully.

    Making the Can

    • 1

Tie the end of the piece of yarn to the center of the paper clip.

    • 2

Place the paper clip on the bottom of the can while holding the other end of the yarn straight up.

    • 3

Pour the fuel into the can.

    • 4

Allow the hot wax to fully cool or the gelled ethanol to fully solidify before using the can.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ethanol and paraffin wax are flammable. Care should be taken when using either around a heat source.

HOW TO USE STERNO COOKING FUEL:

By Dan Boone, eHow Contributor  updated January 03, 2011

How to Use Sterno Cooking Fuelthumbnail

Using Sterno is easy, but requires caution.

Sterno has been used for decades in restaurants, camps and for outdoor functions as a heating source to cook food and keep it hot. Sterno is solidified alcohol packed into a small cylindrical canister. Sterno burns steadily with a heat indicator that relays temperature up to 200 degrees. A 7-ounce can burns up to two hours.

Instructions

Things You’ll Need

  • Sterno
  • Chafing dish or urn with heat cup
  • Spoon to open a lid
  • Water
    • 1

Pry Sterno lid off with a blunt object, such as a spoon. Never use a knife. Cup hand over the lid as you open the can. Wash any fuel residue off your hands.

    • 2

Place Sterno can in slot beneath chafing dish, beverage urn or stove. Make sure can is securely placed in equipment. Fill water pan, urn or kettle body with water. Light Sterno using long handled match or butane lighter, rather than a regular matchbook match, which is not as safe. Do not carry chafing dishes or beverage urn after you have lit the Sterno.

    • 3

Place chafing dish or urn carefully over the flame. Extinguish flame after use with a snuffer paddle or saucer. Wait until can is completely cool before touching or transporting after use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store Sterno in a cool dry place away from heat sources with adequate ventilation. Keep the container closed when not in use.

HOW TO BAKE IN TIN CANS:

By Julie Richards, eHow Contributor

Cakes come in every shape and size. Specialty cakes created for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries vary from simple designs to ornate creations. Certain shapes are almost impossible to create. Short of sculpting the cake after it is baked, the chef has no option but to bake in tin cans for tubular cakes used to make tree trunks among other things.

Instructions

Things You’ll Need

  • Cooking spray with added flour or vegetable oil
  • Baking sheet
  • Bamboo skewer
  • Metal file
    • 1

Clean the can thoroughly to remove any food particles or metal shavings. A metal file run along the cut edges of the can removes any sharp or jagged pieces of metal formed along the rim when the can was opened. Remove the label from the can and the glue left from the label, which sometimes sticks to the sides.

    • 2

Coat the inside of the can with the cooking spray or oil. Regular cooking spray sometimes fails to let the coffee can release the cake properly. A spray with flour added keeps the cake from sticking. Substitute regular vegetable oil or even shortening if you do not have the cooking spray.

    • 3

Preheat the oven to the desired temperature called for in the recipe. Any cake recipe will bake perfectly in the coffee can. To bake several cakes at one time simply space them evenly apart on the cookie sheet.

    • 4

Prepare the cake mix as desired and pour into the prepared can or cans. Gently tap the cans on the counter to settle the cake mix so no air pockets remain during baking. Place the can or cans onto the baking sheet.

    • 5

Bake the required time for the recipe but check for doneness 10 minutes before the time is up by inserting a wooden skewer into the center of the cake. A clean skewer signifies the cake is done.

    • 6

Remove the cake from the oven and let cool for 15 minutes. Run a knife along the inside of the coffee can to release the cake. Gently turn the coffee can upside down and shake to release the cake. Allow the cake to completely cool before decorating as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Small vegetable cans can be substituted for the larger coffee can if you are making individual gift cakes.

  • Only use regular tin cans. Do not use cans with any type of coating on the inside. The coating may come off during the baking session. Only use food-grade cans. Never use cans which stored cleaners, paint or other toxic chemicals.

Obama On Gay Rights!!

Homosexual activity IS a mortal sin!!! Please read “The Ten Commandments” page that is posted on here!!

NEW YORK—President Barack Obama clarified his ambiguous position on gay marriage by telling the press after an LGBT fundraiser, “Gay rights was something I experimented with in college.”

Before a crowd of gay and lesbian Democrats ready to stuff their money into a rainbow-colored sack with a dollar sign painted on it, the president gave an inspiring speech on the matter of gay rights.

While affirming his belief in gay rights as civil rights, he made sure to distance himself from outwardly supporting marriage equality. “Supporting gay marriage might have been something I experimented with in college, but it was just a phase. We all go through phases like that, like my goth phase before that,” he told the fundraiser attendees.

Obama’s speech inspired attendees to donate thousands to the president’s re-election campaign, though not all were satisfied by Obama’s “politically bicurious” stance on gay rights. One attendee interrupted the speech, shouting, “You don’t believe in my right to exist as a free human being!” He then promptly stuffed three hundred dollars into the rainbow money sack.

The president made his rounds after the speech to thank donators and remind attendees he’s been happily married for “almost 20 red-blooded American years,” and “loves sports.”

When asked about his earlier stances on gay marriage, particularly in the late ‘90s when, as a state senator, he supported marriage equality, President Obama replied he merely wanted to try out all forms of civil rights stances. “After all, that’s what college is for, right?” he told a group of donators as he nervously clutched his wedding ring.

As the night progressed and the hotel lobby became congested with men and women with out-turned pockets, Obama gave a final clarification on his gay marriage stance. “I support the state’s right to decide on this matter, and agree with laws legalizing marriage for…did I mention how much I love football?”

The Immediate Future of America is At Stake!!

Now, I will start getting more political on here!!  I will post the truth as I know it and, I have to be honest, I don’t care who likes this or not!!  Truth is truth and truth needs to be heard!!  Whether it’s accepted or not is up to you, the reader.

So, we’ve all been hearing about this August 2nd. deadline between the Congress and/or Senate about this debt ceiling business or else Social Security checks, food stamps, medicaid, etc., will be delayed and, for all we know, even permanently stopped altogether!!  In other words, Social Security checks might not be mailed out on the August 3rd.  They might not even be mailed out at all!!  And what are 27+ million Americans, who get their Social Security checks mailed to them on the 3rd., going to do if there checks don’t get mailed out??  But, you know who’s going to get the blame for this?  The good guys—the Republicans!!  They will get the blame.  But, they are not to be blamed.  The blame goes to Obama—not the good guys!!  In fact, we have absolutely no idea as to what Obama is telling the Congress and the Senate!!  The biased liberal media only tells us what they want us to hear and they probably do not know everything that is happening behind closed doors anyway.

But, the Congress and the Senate are not the ones causing the problem—Obama is!!  It is Obama who is threatening us Americans and also the Congress and the Senate.  He knows, full well, that this is causing one big upset and that’s what he wants—that’s what’s on his, and his friends’, agenda!!  Obama wants R-E-V-O-L-U-T-I-O-N!!  He wants this so that he can declare Martial Law!!  We know martial law is coming.  But, it’s just a matter of time!!

But, ya know what??  Obama is just a “puppet”—it’s ACORN who is running the whole show here!!  ACORN paid his way into the “presidency” so that they can run —- and ruin —-the country!!  ACORN will continue to run the show . . .but, under different names—different disguises!!

Then, there’s that controversy about Obama’s birth certificate and that will probably continue until the end of time.  Whether you all want to believe this or not, Obama is not a naturally-born United States citizen as is required of a President to be, according to our Constitution.  Obama was born in Kenya and the proof is in more ways than one!!  The birth certificate, that he showed us on national television, is a fake!!   As his birth certificate is a fake, this causes every bill, and everything he signed, to be invalid!!

But, the worst part about him being our “president” is that he is anti-God, anti-family, pro-homosexual and he is 100% for the murder of the unborn!!  Since he is 100% for the murder of the unborn, he DOES NOT care about YOU or ME!!  He does not care if we are sick or healthy or if we have enough food to eat, a place to stay, etc., etc., etc.  If he does not care if the unborn live, why would he care about YOU?  Because he is so much for the murder of the unborn, not ONE WORD, that comes flappin’ out of his jaws, can be trusted!! He hates Americans!!

Now, please don’t get me wrong!!  I DO NOT hate Obama AT ALL, as a person!!  However, I am absolutely against his policies!!

But, if we think we have it bad now—the worst is yet to come!!  WAKE UP AMERICA!!  We are heading for a dictatorship!!!
